Anglesey Victory Moves Gough Racing Closer To Title - 21/07/07

Gough Racing rebounded from the disappointment of round five of the 2007 Club Formula Ford Championship (in which Stuart Gough crashed out in difficult conditions) by taking a convincing victory and third place finish to extend their championship lead.

A lack of dry running in testing limited the team to run a base setup for their all new Ray GRS07 in qualifying with Stuart finishing the 20 minute session second quickest albeit six tenths of a second slower than the Medina Sport Van Diemen of James Cole. With the Ray suffering from severe understeer around the tight and technical Anglesey circuit, and despite setup changes made in time for the race, Stuart struggled to third in race one behind Gary Jones and Cole.

Overnight, and with the assistance of Ray Sport and Cliff Dempsey Racing, further setup changes were made which transformed the car for race two. Starting third, Stuart leapt into the lead at the start, and despite early pressure from Gary Jones and then James Cole, Stuart was able to take his third victory of the season, having broken the lap record on his way to a 2.5 second victory.

"That is one of the best victories we have ever had as it was totally unexpected”, commented a delighted Stuart. "We were struggling all weekend and I went out for the second race honestly expecting to finish third, so much so that we started the race on tyres that were eight months old so to save our new tyres for Oulton Park.

"The car was just fantastic, however, and when you have a car that is a rocketship off the line it makes my job that bit easier. My first flying lap in the race was half a second quicker than I had gone all weekend, and as the race went on we got quicker and quicker. In the end it was a quite comfortable but highly satisfying win.

"We have for the first time unlocked the true speed of the Ray GRS07 and I’m now looking forward to seeing what we can achieve at Oulton Park in two weeks time.”
